Progress with new Hothouse
and Sportsfield
(photos taken 10 May 2008)
If you've been regularly checking this website you may have
noticed on the "Spot the Spot" section, photo 9, that it contained the beginning
of the new hothouse on the old DSS sportsfield. Well, since that photo was taken 4 weeks
ago it looks quite different now. Here are a few updated photos, taken on 10 May 2008, of
the enormous new hothouse and the progress of the new sportsfield which is twice the size
of the old one. The Hydroponics technique is working very well and approximately two tons
of sweet peppers (red, green, orange ane yellow) are reaped every week right through the
year. This is one of 27 projects which helps feed the mission and bring in finance to
assist the mission's expenses (remembering that KSB lays on food and accommodation free of
charge).

and sweet peppers click here and here)
NEW SPORTSFIELD
At the same time as the new hothouse, a new
sportsfield has been levelled right next to the old one (with the giant hothouse). The
field is big enough for a full soccer field and a hockey field with extra space for
grandstands. Here are some photos of the progress with the levelling:

This Hitachi excavator has been a splendid machine in
removing tons of sand to create the new sportsfield.

And, while on the subject of construction: if you've
visited Kwasizabantu before you will notice that there is one tunnel under the airstrip
for people and vehicles to get to the auditorium and homes on the other side of the strip.
The second tunnel is nearing completion. The drainage has taken a long time to get right.
Kwasizabantu gets phenomenal storm downpours and it is essential that the drainage is
capable of handling vast quantities of run-off rainwater.
