12 July 2009 - "Redeem the time" - Funeral of F R Khumalo, leader of church at Nkandla
Summary of sermon by Rev E Stegen

(Many young people came to the Lord and put their lives right during the youth services in the past week and gave testimony to the Lord's saving grace. More boys came to the services than girls this winter.)

Eph 5:15, 16, "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

This man who is deceased was there at the beginning of the revival – a boy who was always helpful and could take the initiative.

Often at funerals lies are told. There was a boy who arrived late at a funeral and believed he had gone to the wrong funeral because of what was spoken about the deceased as he had only known him as a drunkard. He left the funeral.
Be aware that a person who does evil goes to hell. No wickedness goes to heaven no matter how small it may seem.

It is no lie that this man stood firm in his faith till the end. Days are not the same. Sometimes you have to pray that the Lord would keep you. Every day we should pray “lead me not into temptation”; pray for protection. Parents can easily be led away by their children. Never side with sin. Grandparents too must be careful not to be led away and take the side of a grandchild in sin.
Widows must cry out for mercy to see the way ahead.

Mothers do not side with your children in their sin against your husband and suffer terrible consequences as a result.

Children honour your parents while they are alive and do not think to make it up with an expensive coffin and flowers when they are dead. Then it is too late. Honour them while they live.

Parents, be careful that in these days your daughters are not drawn into prostitution. It is a wicked thing if a young woman has children outside of marriage, it is wrong. These are wise words of concern and advice to help us and protect young people.

Women have said the pain and tears of child birth is nothing compared to the pain and tears involved in raising the child.

The brother whose funeral it is today walked with the Lord and cleansed his life continually whenever he was burdened. Even on his deathbed he called for a brother to talk and pray with him. The deceased was an upright man and this brings comfort to the family left behind.

May his widow cling to the Lord and continue to walk with Him.
