Thembalethu Play Center Closing
22 November 2001
| The Thembalethu (our trust) Play center had their official closing on the
22nd of November. The children performed a play of a true story in England many years ago.
There came a great famine in the land and the children became like street children. Even
those that had homes had to go and search for food everywhere. Many of the children had to
sleep on the streets. Then one day, a certain rich man passed by where the children were.
When he saw their state, he had pity on them, and brought them bread. He said that he
would bring it to them day after day. They were very thankful, but so hungry, that they
grabbed it and fought for it. However, there was one child who never grabbed or fought,
but patiently waited her turn. The rich man took note of her. One day he gave her some
money for her and her family, attached to her bread. She did not notice it, until she got
home to her mother. They thought the rich man had made a mistake, so she took it back to
him, but he told her that she could keep it. He gave it to them because of her good
behaviour and manners. And so it happened, that when the other children heard
thereof, they also turned from their selfish ways.
