Official opening of the Jakobsbron in Well
by Rev. Erlo Stegen
8th September 2001
John 4: 13 "Whoever drinks of this water
will thirst again,
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the
water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into
everlasting life."
On Saturday the official opening of the new center in Well (Holland) took place. The
name of the new center is Jakobsbron (Jacobs Well) and the story of the Lord Jesus
speaking with the Samaritan woman was central in the service.
Missionary Erlo Stegen preached about the living water. He spoke about the time before
the revival, that this text troubled him. He saw the lives of the Christians, thirsting
after things of this world, thirsting after sin. When he read that who will drink of this
water will never thirst, there was a contradiction: his life wasnt right, or the
Bible wasnt right. He told about his experience in Namibia, where a farmer showed
him a well with water that couldnt be used for anything. The more they watered the
land, the more the plants died. This was like a mirror for his own service.
Are these streams of living water flowing out of our life? Revelation 22:1 speaks again
over this living water:
1 ¶ And he showed me a pure river of water of
life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
That is how our life should be: clear as crystal.
These streams of living water are coming from the throne of God and the Lamb. Only when
God is enthroned in our life, this living water shall flow.
But when we like to drink this water, Jesus will deal with us, like with that Samaritan
woman. He will point out what isnt right in our life. That is the price for revival,
for living water: we must break with that, what isnt right, sin, the things of this
world, etc.
This water will become like a spring in you. In Ezekiel is told about a river that
deepens the longer it flows. So must our life be, a spring welling up to eternal life with
crystal clear water.
