"Escape for your life" Gen 19:17
Text summary of sermon by Rev Friedel Stegen, 30 June 2006, 19:00
Gen 19:17 - So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said,
Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape
to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.
Righteous Lot was grieved with the evil all around him. The people
of Sodom and Gomorrah did just what they liked. They couldn't care less about the next
person, as long as they enjoyed themselves. Boys and girls didn't respect each other at
all. They defiled their bodies by all manner of perversions. In short, it was a time like
today.
When the two stangers arrived in Sodom, Lot showed them
hospitality, not knowing that they were messengers from God. Lot wasn't influenced by the
evil ways of those around him. He still cared about the next person. However, the evil men
of the city wanted to sin with these messengers of God, and when Lot refused to comply,
they wanted to hurt him. He was saved by the angels, who pulled him into the house, shut
the door and struck the men with blindness. The next morning they told Lot that the city
was going to be destroyed, and Lot and his family fled with the men. When they were
outside, the angels commanded them, "Escape for your life!"
God also charges you to escape from your sinful life, today. You
must act quickly. It is dangerous to remain in your sinful state. Whenever a person comes
to the Lord Jesus and acknowledges that he is a sinner, and ask for forgivenes, he is
forgiven, and Jesus gives him new life. He is the only one that can save you from your sin
and make you to be a light to those around you. He can give you a victorious life over
sin, and make you a blessing to your parents, colleagues and society.
