"Escape for your life" Gen 19:17
Text summary of sermon by Rev Erlo Stegen, 1 July 2006, 10:00
Gen 19:17 - So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said,
Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape
to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.
The people of Sodom were given over to their lusts. Sin is an ever
increasing, progressive addiction. Those who would not acknowledge God, though they know
the truth about him, He gives over to their passions, as we read in Rom 1:28, "And
even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a
debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting"
Lot was a righteous man but he wasn't on fire spiritually. His
wife loved the world and his daughters though virgins, were not on fire for God.
Lot's wife was pulled by the things of the world; she looked back and was turned into a
pillar of salt.
God totally destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and
surrounding towns. Today those cities are not inhabited and the dead sea covers the area
where those cities were.
You too don't know when God's wrath will fall. Escape for your
life.
The Johnstown, Pennsylvania, 1889 dam failure disaster is well known. Many
of the people did not think that the dam wall would break, but it did break and many died.
They refused to heed the warning and perished.
You also don't know when you will be judged. Today God also
commands you to flee to the hill of Golgotha and be saved.
