Brief reports of some services of Sep 2001 European Tour
(see tour programme)

The first 4 services were held in Switzerland
In Zurich, on the 12th september Erlo Stegen spoke about the theme:
"Don't you have time for God ?"
His text: Acts 24, 24-26
A survey was taken in a Germany by a group of young people on how much time people spend
during the day for work, reading or watching TV. The closing question was, how much time
do you have for God ? Many were confused and did not know how to answer, some answered
"we are going to church on Sunday."
Paul was a preacher with authority. People either rejected or accepted his preaching. When
Felix heard him preaching he trembled, as Paul reasoned of righteousness, temperance and
judgement to come. Felix, who lived an immoral life, also hoped to receive money from
Paul. He did not understand, that he met in Paul a man of God. It was God's time for his
life to be saved and to find Christ. Herod also enjoyed listening to the preaching of John
the Baptist, but he did not take the opportunity to repent.
In every person's life God grants these moments of grace.
Do not do the same mistake as Felix who said "My time has not come yet".
Seek God as long as you can find him and cry out to him when he is near.
The service included several testimonies of people who realised that God called them, and
who reacted differently towards God's calling.
In Thun (Switzerland), 14th september Erlo Stegen spoke about:
"Walk in Faith" (The German word he used was "Glaubensleben", which
might be translated more precisely by "To live by faith")
text: 1. Kor. 9, 24 - 27
These are not human words, but a revelation of the Holy Spirit. Paul had to suffer much
for the gospel, but his life was not characterised by uncertainty. How many christians
today do not know whether they will reach the goal and are constantly in doubt about their
spitirual life. Paul testifies, he is "not fighting as one that beats the air, but he
keeps his body under and bring it into subjection.
The early churchfathers used to compare our body with a donkey, who is a good servant, but
a wicked master. Great man of God who were used by God lost their spiritual life and fell
into sin, this is where the "donkey" as a master leads a person. But God has
entrusted us the spirit of power and self-discipline. Our life is very short, therefore it
is important that we learn to train our body like a sportsman. Consider carefully
beforehand, whether it is good to go somewhere or not and only than take your decision.
Paul had a goal in his life, what are you praying for and what is your goal. Unless we pay
attention to this text, we wont succeed in our spiritual life.
Can the people around you testify, that your life is characterised by a godly perspective
?
Schorndorf (Germany), 16th of september
"Gods faithfulness"
1. Cor. 10,13
The least we can do for God, is to serve him with a burning heart. All over in life we
meet up with different limits. Every elevator, bridge or lorry has a different
weightlimit. It is the same with us as human beings. God knows our limits, and he does not
allow, that our load will be to much. No matter how wicked the world is around you, he
knows your strength and he is able to keep you from falling. Many people are falling,
because they do not listen to God's voice in times of temptation. It is never on God's
plan, that sin enters our life. This is why it is good to pray "Lord help me that I
do see the way to escape from temptation, and give me the courage to go this way."
Even if people around you forsake god, he still has a way for you to overcome and not to
fall into sin. This is gods faithfulness.
The service included the testimony of a widow who found herself in a predicament. Being in
financial constraints, her creditor wanted her to commit immorality. God showed her a way
out and provided exactly the amount of money she needed.
In listening to God's voice in times of temptation we become a testimony for him amongst
the people we live.
At the last service in Switzerland, 25 September, there were 350 to 400 people in the
Kaltbrun hall. The theme of Erlo Stegen's message was Psalm 90:12. |
