Outreach to Caprivi Strip - October
2002

On Monday the 14th Oct a team of 8 people left for an
outreach to the Caprivi in Namibia and Zambia, the team included; Tom Fouche,
Craig Engelbrecht and Pieter van Rensburg from the Pelindaba branch, Gideon Jacobs and
Lilani from Smithfield and Thomas Maphanga, Sibongiseni Khumalo and John Powys.
The journey started from Pelindaba at 04h00 and the first night was
spent in the bush in Botswana, we had 27kg of meat for the two weeks, the meat was vacuum
packed and we had a permit to transport it. However, when we got to a foot and mouth
disease control point we were refused entry with the meat. We camped right there and
roasted and cooked it all, the next morning we could proceed further with the cooked meat.

We arrived at our destination, Katima Mulilo which means ' Cool the fire'
on Wed 16th. Our host lives under a Rosewood tree in a caravan and a tent with his wife
and two children. The temperatures during October are extreme, we drank liters of water
and cooldrink just to survive the heat and the very dry climate. Fortunately our camp was
next to the Zambezi River where we could swim, bath and do our washing.
The first meeting was in a Reformed Church
attended by Farmers and business people.
On Friday we had an all day ministers conference
in Katima Mulilo and showed a film at night in an open air stadium, the services were well
attended.
On Saturday we crossed the river to Shesheki, a
small town in Zambia, there we also had an all day ministers conference and showed the
film at night.
T he
ministers asked us to take 5 services on Sunday in different congregations, we slept under
the stars on the ground and were not very clean but that did not matter to them, we had to
preach as we were.
There is a great hunger for the truth amongst
these ministers and many want to come to next years ministers conference in March.
We left Katima Mulilo on the 22nd to Windhoek
where we had appointments at two radio stations.
One
interview was on the NBC German program and the other on Chanel 7, a Christian radio
station.
Then we proceeded to a farm south of Gobabis
where we had services for Nama farm workers and the farmers family.
We visited another farm south of Gobabis to
minister to a mainly Bushmen audience.
Our last stop was with Dr Franscios Louw where
we had a number of services at his home.
Namibia is a vast country with a very small
population, approx 1.7 million people, the farms are huge and the people live very far
apart and the Christians are much encouraged when other brethren visit them.
We returned home safely by God's grace on the
29th October.
