USA Tour - November 2001

Update 19 November 2001:

John and Kjell have arrived safely
in San Francisco. Their first service was in a Philipino House Church.

Update 17 November 2001:

The 7pm evening service on 17 Nov was more of a time of questions and answers. John started with emphasising the importance of "entering into the rest", found in Heb 3 & 4. Then we faced questions till 9:15pm.

Update 16 November 2001:

The second service in St. Louis was held in the Russian Ukranian Baptist Church (at Christy's Baptist Church). The typical service length is about two hours and usually more than one message is expected. Kjell opened with a continuation of his previous night's theme - the characteristics of the lukewarm Christian life. The next message was by John where he preached from Matt 7: 21-23.

Update 15 November 2001:

The first service in St. Louis was held in the Chesterfield Community Church. Three Slavic Baptist congregations gathered together, with some local English speaking Americans. John opened the service with a text from Numbers 13 and 14 regarding the report of the spies. Going into Canaan is for this lifetime, John said. Victory in Christ is fully possible and we dare not be like the grumbling spies but should rather see our enemies "as bread", as Joshua and Caleb reported.
Kjell then preached from Rev 3: 15-18 (The Russians often have 2 or 3 sermons in a service). The Laodiceans were confident about their spirituality but what a shock it must have been when Christ said: "But I say that you are...".
Pastor Alek Gura interpreted into Russian.

Update 14 November 2001:

The other services in Tulsa have been a blessing. We arrived 13 November in St. Louis and services begin on Wednesday and continue till Sunday.
Ferny and his wife left for France on Tuesday, for services at a Bible college.
The photo is of the team and Russian brethren, just before Ferni and Christine's departure to France.

Update 11 November 2001:

Today was Harvest Festival at the Slavic Baptist Church. The photo of the little boy, Sergei, was healed of club feet four years ago when Ferni Jaegle was in Chechnya. He was to undergo a serious operation but was healed after 3 months. Sergei can now play soccer.
The services went very well.

Update 9 November 2001:

Ferny Jaegle preached in the evening service about the requested topic: "Preparing yourself for the second coming". He preached about the parable of the 10 virgins.
The Lord blessed the message and many were deeply touched. After the meeting, which had been two and a half hours long, there was a time for fellowship and questions from the Russian brethren. This continued till the early hours of the morning. It was a wonderful time of sharing."

John shared from the text in the last chapter of John where Peter was too absorbed in what happened to others. We need to be very careful that we do not try and imitate others. What matters is a personal relationship between me and Jesus Christ.

Update 8 November 2001: Some preaching appointments to remember

Date Details
19 Nov Meeting with a little home church:
Pastor Bobby Makalintal, 1443 Drolette Way, Benicia, CA
20 Nov Meeting at the home of Steve & Shirley Rees:
1109 Kentucky St, Vallejo, CA
21 Nov Meeting at Calvary Christian Center:
2322 Spring St., St. Helena, CA

The Russian believers expect the service to be at least 2 hours long. Tonight (8 Nov), Kjell shared from Acts 19:23 where it says that the Gospel had caused "no small disturbance". The Word of God often causes disturbances and trouble until we submit to the Lord.

Update 7 November 2001:
The Kwasizabantu team arrived safely in the USA and started their first service in Tulsa Oklahoma on 7 November. John and Kjell had spent two days in New York and visited Ground Zero, the site where 12 blocks were destroyed on 11 September (see photos). "The smoke and dust (which one could still smell) created a sense of an ongoing tragedy."
The first service in Tulsa was on Wednesday night in a Slavic Baptist church. Kjell & John shared their testimonies and Ferny Jaegle (from France) shared from Ps 50: 21 " You thought that I was just like you."
Services will continue in this church till Sunday.
