Saturday morning, 8 December 2001 - Rev J Chauke
Gen 41:38-41; Gen 39:7,9 41:38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is,
a man in whom the Spirit of God is? 39:7 And it came to pass after these things, that his masters wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Pharaoh asks here where one can find such an one as Joseph in whom God's Spirit is. It was as if such people did not exist. What is God's Spirit like in a person's life? Just look at John 16:8 at how He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgement in a persons life. He is a Holy Spirit. In John 3:6 we read Jesus' answer to Nicodemus, that we must be born again of God's Spirit. Nicodemus came with knowledge to learn some new thing from Jesus and have a nice discussion about religious matters, but Jesus went straight to the heart of the problem - you must be born again of God's Spirit. This is what is necessary. Rom 8:9 says that if you don't have God's Spirit, you are not of God. In Upington a boy had just finished matric, but he began to come home later and later. A few weeks ago he returned home at 3 in the morning, high on drugs. His father opened the door and the boy stabbed him 5 times and killed him. I visited the boy in jail and was able to preach to 60 of his age group. When I made an appeal, he was the first of the 16 who came forward to repent and turn to Christ. What is the sign that the Holy Spirit is in a person's life? That person will live a holy, sanctified life. Rev. Stegen made an appeal to which many responded and came to the front to call on the Lord and ask the Holy Spirit to be in their lives, as He was in Joseph's. |
