1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
When Zacchaeus met Jesus, it changed his life completely and transformed his household. It started with the personal experience he had with the Lord. You cannot meet the Lord Jesus and nothing happens. You change. Jesus changes things and so it happened in Zacchaeus’ life.
Some people only hear about Jesus and it ends there but blessed is the man who wants to know more about Him and experience Him personally. Even though there are crowds around you, may you find yourself alone with the Lord.
Zacchaeus experienced Jesus speaking with him. It was no longer just what he had heard. When have you had such a moment and know this is Jesus speaking to you? At that moment all that is important is Jesus speaking to you. Jesus said, “Make haste. Come down because today I must stay in your house.” It was almost that because of what Zacchaeus had done, the Lord could not do otherwise. Have you been able to touch the Lord Jesus’ heart? The Lord was just passing but because of what Zacchaeus had done, He went into his house and he and his household was changed forever!
When you have that sycamore tree moment, answer and respond. Don’t be like king Agrippa who told Paul, “You have almost persuaded me to become a Christian.” But Agrippa stopped short and went away.
Now is the time. If the Lord stretches out His hand, grab it. You don’t know when the Lord will pass by again.
Zacchaeus said he would give half of his money to the poor. The Lord brings compassion. Before, Zacchaeus thought only of himself. He was working for the government but he wasn’t honest. He forced the people to do and give things that weren’t expected of them. He was actually a rich man but he exploited the situation and people to get more. He was greedy and corrupt. He would have earned what he was entitled to earn but he exploited people. He was only interested in what he could get for himself. But when the Lord Jesus came suddenly he thought how he could help others. He had compassion and felt for the poor. When Jesus comes, you have a heart for those who have less than you. You become content and are thankful and start appreciating what you have. It’s wonderful to see the change, when God changes your heart, attitude and whole outlook on life.
The Lord Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house.” Are you feeling lost today? The Lord Jesus came to save the lost. You can have that sycamore tree experience. The Lord can speak to you today. If you open your heart to the Lord, He will change you.
Listen to what He tells you to do. That brings joy. Not what you want but what He wants. He wants to come into your house and heart and transform you.
