Resurrection Sunday 11am: Service and Holy Communion. Rev Stegen read from 1Cor 5:7-8 about our Passover Lamb. The Israelites had their Passover Lamb that they had to partake of and paint the blood on their doorposts to experience deliverance out of Egypt. Our Passover Lamb is Jesus Himself. Though our brain cannot comprehend it we accept by faith that when Jesus died we also died. When He arose we rose with Him to newness of life. About 6000 people were present for the Communion part of the service at the end.
Saturday 7pm: After various choirs and a brief introduction the film “The Passion of the Christ” was shown.
Saturday 3pm: Dr Albu van Eeden read from Heb 12:2 “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” We are to look to the One who brought us peace from our sin-caused confusion and crushing burdens. Christ restores relationships – between us and God and with each other.
Saturday 10am: The text was Mk 14:33-37. Rev Stegen spoke about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The cup that Jesus was praying about was full of our sin. He knew that it meant the Cross and separation from the Father. Christ became a curse – became sin for us. That was the cup. He was not afraid of the Cross but saw the terrible sins in the cup that He had to drink and be fully identified with us in our wickedness. Nevertheless, he accepted it and paid the penalty for our sin, because of His great love for us. He did all that for you. Are you serving Him with all your heart – loving Him more than anything else.
Friday 7pm: Rev Stegen read from Jn 19:1-5. He said that more will be spoken about “The Man” and what He did for us on the Cross in later services. He spoke about the necessity to be ready for death – young and old. What Jesus did during Easter can make a person ready to die.
