“Building Instructions”

1 Corinthians 3

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

At the beginning of this chapter Paul rebukes them for not growing up spiritually. Elementary sins still reign in their lives, such as jealousy, strife and division. Christian, what does it look like in your life? Have you been a Christian for many years, and yet you are still overcome by the very sin you’ve confessed at the beginning? This is not our calling. We must grow and bear fruit.

However, now Paul changes his tone, and refer to those who are builders together with Christ. Christ is the foundation and chief cornerstone of the church. He holds the whole building together. However, before the foundation can be laid, all the stones and rubbish must be removed. He will not share your life with sin. He will even be a stumbling stone to those who are disobedient. When you want to enter into sin, your conscience is pricked. He does that out of His love for you.

Each of us must take care how we build on this foundation. Our lives are living stones in this building. Our work will be tested by fire. If we’ve built with precious stones, gold or silver, our work will only be purified by the fire and pass the test; else, if we’ve built with wood, hay and stubble, our work will be destroyed and burnt up.

For each of our lives, God has His masterplan and blueprint. Let us be diligent to walk in His way and not be envious and try to copy the plan God has for our brother.
