“Comfort My People”

 Isaiah 40

1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.

These words were for Jerusalem. They were in exile. They were surrounded by their enemies. Everyone knew they were in exile! They were in a foreign country, a distant land. And then God tells Isaiah to proclaim this comforting message.

That’s what happened to Job. All his failures were exposed to the whole world.

Maybe that’s how you feel. Things are difficult and everything goes wrong. Then this word is for you.

It might feel that you have made a mess of everything.

Many people need this message. Many see themselves as a complete failure, because they’re in Babylon. They’re not there where they are supposed to be. They feel like they are just losing everywhere.

The devil will concentrate your sight on your mistakes. Eventually you feel sorry for yourself and are tempted to sin and find fault with everything, and become touchy.

Maybe you experience that you and your family are in Babylon, not where you’re supposed to be. The harder you work the less blessing you see.

But don’t forget:

Romans 8

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

We might be like Job’s friends pointing fingers at why things go wrong with someone else, yet we’re not on God’s frequency and completely miss the mark. We don’t realize that God is working in that person’s life. Yet God tells us here that He has forgiven their sin and speak comfortably unto them, even as unto Job.

3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Here we find the secret of God’s comforting words. He tells us don’t be busy with your own things but make a highway for the Lord through the wilderness. That’s what we should be busy with . Fill the valleys and flatten the hills.

The Lord shows us where our focus should be. Many get stuck with the things people do to them or their terrible situation and so give up.

But God points us to our relationship with Himself. Be busy with preparing the highway of the Lord in your life. Learn to be quiet. No matter what happens, stay in the presence of the Lord.

5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

This is the promise when you prepare the highway for the Lord. Then you won’t get irritated but wait on Him in every situation.

Are there still some rough spots in your life? Can the glory of the Lord be seen in your life?

The focus immediately shifts onto your personal life, and away from your problems, situation and the mistakes of others.

The pharisees spoke the truth but didn’t live accordingly.

What do your children say about your life? What do they see in your life?

If we want the glory of the Lord to be evident in our life then we must have the Lord’s way prepared in our lives.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

See to it that your relationship with the Lord stays right no matter how difficult it is. Don’t focus on your failures, but see to it that the highway is always open for the Lord to come.

Don’t focus on your wife or children but on the Lord that there’s nothing between you and the Lord. Then the other relationships will also come right. Then you don’t even have to pray that God’s glory be seen in your life for it will be there.

This was the first message of the revival, prepare the highway for the Lord. And when people did that the revival came. Remove all sin and hindrances for His coming.

Maybe you were revived once but the circumstances caused you to lose focus and you have backslidden.

Do what we’ve heard today and this past week during the youth conference and you will find life again.
