Be sure your sin will find you out

Sunday service, Erlo Stegen, 20 March 2016

Numbers 32:23
23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.
There are those that’s hidden their sins for years but eventually their sin found them out. Cain murdered his brother, but God saw him. There is nothing hidden from the sight of God. God searched out the sin of Cain.
Each one of us should examine his or her life if there’s any hidden sin.
Sodom and Gomorrah sinned so much that their sins rose up to God in heaven. So God sent His angels to see if it’s true. It’s astonishing that sin is committed here but it rises up to God in heaven. The angels then went to Sodom and Gomorrah to see what it was really like. When the men of the city saw them, they demanded of Lot to have them to rape them. But the angels struck the men of the city with blindness so that they couldn’t find the entrance. Then the angels told Lot and his family to flee, and Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by fire and brimstone.
Never again presume that your sin can be hidden from God. Your parents might not know, your relatives might not know but in heaven it’s known. God is omniscient and knows your sin. It’s because of that very sin that Jesus died on the Cross.
A certain man used to steal sheep and brought them home. One day he again said to his wife that he was going to steal a sheep, and that she should have the boiling water ready at his return. They were very lazy people, but very diligent when it came to do evil. When he had stolen the sheep he picked it up and ran home with it. The water was ready. He slaughtered the sheep, gave the meat to his wife and went to bury the remains. When he was almost finished the police arrived. The police found the front door locked and knocked. The woman answered that she couldn’t open the door for she was too ill. They warned her that if she wouldn’t open the door they would break it down by force. In the meantime she hid the meat in her bed. Then she opened the door and went back to bed. They asked her where the sheep was for they could still smell it, and the fat floated on top of the water in the pot. She denied it. They searched everywhere but couldn’t find anything. Eventually they slapped her and demanded that she get out of bed and show them where it was. When she got out, they saw the hot steam rising from the bed, and pulled the cover and discovered the carcass. You can sit on your sin, but be sure it will find you out.
Sin is not quiet, it is crying out.
A certain man stole a goat and also used a rope from the farm where he stole the goat from. However his conscience bothered him and he decided to acknowledge his sin. He went back to the farmer and told him that he had stolen a rope from the farm, but kept quiet about the goat that was at the end of the rope.
You’re not helped by half a confession. Such a confession will not help you. When you confess your sin and repent of your sin, make sure that you do it in truth, and acknowledge it as it is.
