“Cleansing and Zeal”

Isaiah 6

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

In Isaiah 6 v 5-8, Isaiah says he is a man of unclean lips. This was in the time of King Uzziah who was a leper and couldn’t live amongst people and then eventually he died. Then the Lord said that He still sat on the throne, that He was above everything and that He was in control and that is still the same today. The Lord Jesus does live in our hearts but each person has to see Him themselves. It is not enough that you hear Him speak but you have not met Him yourself. What is going on in your life? Maybe you have “leprosy”. Maybe something must first die in your life like the love of money or stubbornness. Why don’t you let go and let Christ live in you? Then life would be different.

The seraphims surrounded God’s throne. They are instruments for God’s use and flaming fires. There is something driving them to serve God. They don’t do it unwillingly. The devil comes to steal and destroy and children feel that they are missing out in life but that is a lie. God wants the best for us. The seraphims had a zeal for God and God can do that for us. If we want this power from God, then holiness is essential. Maybe children do not respect their parents. The bible says we must have clean hands and hearts but we drag our feet. If you understood how much God cared for you, you would change.

Then it says that the foundation was shaken and smoke filled the temple. Smoke darkens God’s glory and that is what sin does. God shook the life of Isaiah and it is grace if God does that to you. Then Isaiah said that he lives among a people with unclean lips. We often speak about things we have heard and it is not something that we do alone. It is always with others and you know how to influence others. Isaiah, however, said that if he changed, maybe others will also change. Mothers find fault with their children but maybe God will start with you and the husbands likewise. God opened Isaiah’s eyes and he saw his fault. A farmer in Namibia had water but it was killing the plants. It is the same when you preach if there is sin in your heart. Has your life changed? Do you still have an evil eye and evil thoughts? If God shows you something, then you must obey God at that point. Then the Seraph touched his lips and he was a changed man in the same way fire refines gold and silver to make it pure. With some people, however, it just runs off their backs and they are stone-cold. Isaiah met with the Spirit of God and He burned away the wrong. In the same way, Moses had to take off his sandals or the wrong in his life. God wants us to get rid of the wrong so that He can fill your life with heavenly love and zeal. Love bears not grudges, doesn’t have its own way and is patient.
An old priest prayed for much difficulty for a young priest who wanted patience. The young priest said that that wasn’t what he wanted but the old priest then told him that it was the only way to get patience. If you have the fire of God then according to Zacharias 2, He will be a wall of fire around you but if that fire is small, then you must get the rubbish out. Parents must take a stand against the wrong in their children’s lives. When parents said they would send their daughter away, then she came to her senses. If parents aren’t firm, then the children mock the parents and the work of God.
As a child, I read this scripture that spoke to me. Hasn’t God spoken to you? When will you obey and say as Isaiah said, “Lord Jesus, here am I, send me.”
