“Entering the Sabbath Rest of the Lord”

Hebrews 4

1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Many Christians have come to the Lord but they have not come to rest. They’re always on edge whether they will make it or not. But may we have faith to trust the promises of His Holy Word and enter into His rest, Just as Joshua and Caleb believed the Lord’s Word and entered into His rest.

Here we are reminded again that God created the universe in six days. People try to belittle God by saying that it is impossible for Him to create the universe in six days and that it took Him millions of years. But we believe that He could have created the universe in even much less than six days. He saved me from my sin and if He could do that He could create the universe in six days or even less if He wanted to.

We also read that after He created the universe in six days He said that it was good, and on the seventh day He rested.

(There are those who are allergic to work; they sit around for six days doing nothing and then on the seventh they do a little and then they are overworked.)

God has created you and me for a purpose so that His Name might be glorified. Will He look back on you and I and say that it was good?

Can Jesus glorify His Name through your life? Do you do what you do unto Christ? Have you become a bond-slave to Christ? Are you servant to all like Jesus Christ Who gave His life to others? Do you have the Spirit of Jesus Christ? Do you have compassion on the lost? God expects each of us to be ambassadors of Christ, so that a person who meets us comes to perfect rest and peace in Christ.

What does your family experience in your presence dear father? Do they experience the rest of Jesus? Mother, does your husband experience the rest of Jesus in your presence? Does the rest and peace of Jesus Christ prevail in your home? Do the visitors experience the peace of Christ? In your personal life have you come to perfect rest or is there turmoil in your heart? Have you become a partaker of the Spirit and Nature of Jesus Christ? Apply His promises to your life and believe in His Word.

This is absolutely essential for us Christians. Unbelievers should experience the rest of Jesus Christ in our presence.

See to it that you enter into that peace and rest and do not stop until you have experienced the peace and rest of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. See to it that you have a perfect relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you have grieved the Holy Spirit and your heart is in turmoil, quickly go to Him and ask His forgiveness that you might be cleansed by the precious Blood of our Lord Jesus. Then you will once again experience His peace and rest. Make your peace with God and do not be stubborn and self-righteous.

In Ps 132:13, 14 we see that He desires to dwell with His children. Is He dwelling among us? Don’t be a stumbling block that He doesn’t feel at home in His dwelling place. Allow God the Holy Spirit to burn away all dross in your life. Come to the cross with your failures and sin that He might dwell with you.
