1 Kings 11
1 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; 2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
Proverbs 7
1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. 2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. 3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman: 5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words. 6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, 8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, 9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. 11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: 12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) 13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
If we go through this world and observe we see how rampant Satan is among young people. The attraction of immorality is extremely dangerous to young people, in particular.
Solomon penned these words in Proverbs concerning the importance of avoiding the adulterous woman. He wrote about this foolish young man who was caught by this loose woman, but if we examine his own life and how strange women caused him to sin we can only be amazed at his own foolishness.
Even though David advised his son he did not listen to the advice of his father.
There was no one wiser than Solomon and yet he was to fall into the very type of foolishness he warned against.
The name of Solomon was Jedidiah, the one greatly loved by God. But Solomon lost it all because of strange women. Solomon even built shrines to the gods of his wives. After Solomon God divided the kingdom and gave it to others.
When Solomon eventually realized what he had done he wrote in Ecclesiastes 12:8, “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity!”. We thank God that Solomon repented at the end of his life and wrote Ecclesiastes.
Yes, David sinned too, but God chastised him and said to him that as he sinned in secret his children will sin openly. God forgave David and David repented thoroughly and never returned to the sin again. But with Solomon God’s anger was greatly roused for he multiplied his sin again and again.
Though he had known the love of God, yet he acted so foolishly and lost it all.
All sins are outside the body but the one who sins with a harlot sins against his own body (1Cor 6:18). Your actions have consequences. It doesn’t matter what nation you come from. The Roman empire fell because of sexual immorality.
Everyone should live with the realisation that the eye of God is upon them.
David was a man after God’s own heart. He followed God wholeheartedly and instructed his son in the ways of God. Jesus is called the son of David. Yet many of David’s children did not follow the Lord, and even Solomon, so greatly loved of God, turned away from God when he became old! Parents don’t assume you’ve given birth to angels, for more often they are devils.
Young man, you might leave Jesus for a girl, but she will leave you too for another, for God is not mocked (Gal 6:7).
Defy the whore trying to draw you into sexual immorality, lest you be the laughing stock of the world and wound your own soul.
These days we spoke about Mary and Joseph and how upright they were. Joseph was a man among men and Mary a woman among women. Before their marriage they were upright young people and after their marriage Joseph respected Mary until Jesus was born and did not touch her out of honour for the One she was carrying (Matthew 1:25).
There are very few such young people.
Heed therefore the warning lest your heart is turned away from the Lord. Use this opportunity to repent and cry to God for deliverance from this fatal sin.
