“God, as an Enemy”

Lamentations 2

5 The Lord was as an enemy: he hath swallowed up Israel, he hath swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

When we were in Maphumulo, praying for revival, I had always thought that it was the devil that resisted me, but when God revealed me my pride to me, I realised that it was God who was resisting me. We cannot take it for granted that God is for us. If we preach with sin in our lives, how can we expect God to be for us? The Bible teaches us to be holy and separate unto the Lord. Many ministers are not faithful to their marriage vows, and God deals with them as an enemy.

What does God expect of his servants? Shouldn’t the church of Christ be the greatest force in the world today? One can understand why there is a book called Lamentations in the Bible, if one look at the condition of many churches and ministers of the Gospel. In 1Cor 10:1-13 we read how Israel was lead through the wilderness, saw God’s work, covered by the cloud, drank of the spiritual rock, Christ, were baptised, etc., but God was not well pleased with them and they perished in the wilderness.

These things were written for our instruction, that we would not go the same way they went. When we read these verses a godly fear arises in us, which is the “beginning of wisdom”. South Africa is bleeding. We’re being finished off by AIDS and criminality. These things are taking over in spite of thousands of preachers in South Africa. O, for men and woman who would be like Phinehas.

Repent of your sins for God is faithfull and just to forgive us our sins.
The truth is that there is a living God. Let him not be an enemy to you. Live a life well pleasing to Him. Soon we will have elections, but today you must choose as well. Where do you put your cross? What kind of preacher do you want to be from now on? Forget the past. South Africa needs upright preachers, as does the rest of the world.
