“Hidden Treasure”
Wedding of Zanele & Sphamandla Zungu
Engagements of: Peter Mabika & Sthembile Mbuyisa, Teun Roos & Pauline Bouzerand, Isak du Preez & Christelle Bigoni
Zanele comes from an orphanage of Doctors For Life and dr Albu van Eeden is like a father to her. She had become like a mother herself to the orphans, but now God has chosen a new path for her in marriage.
When Jesus was told your mother and brothers want to speak to you, He said, “who are my mother and brothers?” Then He pointed to His disciples and said, “they who do the will of My Father are my mother and brothers”. Those who do not do the will of God are not part of God’s true family.
The text for today’s wedding, from the bridegroom, is:
Deuteronomy 28
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.
12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
There was a certain poor white man living in rags. One day his little house burnt down, but someone with knowledge of the plot of land his house was on, told him of a treasure buried in the ground underneath his house. He dug and found a casket full of bricks of gold, hidden long ago by the previous owner of the land. This enabled him to build himself a mansion and live comfortably for the rest of his life.
So too spiritually you might be living in rags and don’t realize that you’re sitting on top of enormous wealth. The key to this wealth is found in our text, that the bridegroom have chosen.
If we listen carefully to His voice to observe and do His commandments He will open His spiritual treasure house for us and give us as much as we need. Only a fool would reject such riches.
Although education helps one to be successful, if it’s done without God it will only lead to vanity and misery. Whatever you might attain in life, without God and His will for your life, you’ve missed the point of life and your end will be meaningless and everlasting remorse.
Keep the way of the Lord for if you go off His way, your life becomes worthless, like a rag.
Abraham followed the Lord carefully, so much so that God said of Abraham, “I know Abraham that he will command his house to keep the ways of the Lord”.
Just as there are rules for driving a car on a public road, so too the Bible is our rule book for life. You ignore it at your own peril. You might have no brakes and go into a life of loose living and promiscuity and ignore the rules of heaven, but you will only hurt yourself and those around you. Rather listen to God’s voice and do His will.
