“Honey from the Rock”

2 Samuel 22

2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

One of the signs that revival continues in your life is that you keep weeding – you cleanse your life from the smallest sin. If revival has died in your life you start to confess the sins of others – you see the sins of others.

Those who stop to cleanse their life can no longer see God’s works; to them it seems as if the revival has stopped whereas it has actually stopped in their own life.

Cry to God if you don’t experience revival in your heart. Start confessing your own sins again that you might experience revival again; then you will forget about the faults of others.

The prophet Micah prophesied, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto Me that is to be Ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2). The prophets from the old testament prophesied clearly about the coming of Jesus Christ.

Moses said of Jacob:

Deuteronomy 32

13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock.

When Jacob wrestled with the angel, he said to him, “let me go”. But Jacob answered, “I will not let you go unless you bless me”. Jacob received the blessing and his name was changed from Jacob to Israel. No wonder Moses wrote such things of him.

Jacob was an extra ordinary man. He had a determination and stopped at nothing. He had a goal. He wanted the best, and he wasn’t satisfied about the second best. Right from his birth, when Esau was born first he held on to the heel of Esau, for he wanted to be first. He wanted the blessing at all cost. He had a goal and zeal in his life. He wasn’t concerned about other people. He was concerned about his own life that he might receive God’s best and be in right standing with God.

Many Christians go throughout their life worrying and gossiping about the sins of others. Such people are going down to hell. Their lives are full of weeds and they don’t care. They have stopped cleansing their life.

You should in stead see to it that your own life is right before God and has God’s blessing.

Jacob was different. He wanted God’s blessing, God’s best and be holy unto the Lord. Jacob had one goal, to attain to the blessing and reward of his father and his father’s God.

Where do you stand? Do you have that zeal? With what are busy? What is your aim in life? Do you gossip about others and speak about their sins?

One finds so-called Christians who are all the time busy with the faults and sins of others. To them the blessing of revival has no meaning. They are not concerned with having God’s fire in their own lives but always look at the sins of others and find fault with others.

Cleanse your own life that God can use you, in stead of sorting out other’s lives.

We read that Jacob “suck honey from the Rock”. The Lord Jesus was his life. It was honey and sweetness to him (see Ps 19:7-11). His life was out of the Rock.

Is that a description of your life? Is God’s word to you sweeter than honey? Do those people who live with you receive spiritual honey from your life? Can you give those in your presence peace and joy? Do they receive the fruit of the Holy Spirit from your life (Gal 5:22, 23), or do they become discouraged and experience that your life breaks down, brings division and that you slander others?

Others should be revived to newness of life when they meet up with you if you feed upon the Rock, Jesus Christ.

Your wife and children should also experience the sweetness of Christ from your life. It should be sweeter than honey or is it unpalatable?

Jesus laid down His life for us. We see His mind from Phillipians 2. We should have the same mind and Spirit of Christ and not live for ourself. When you have drunk from the Rock, your life will be for others and the fruit of the Spirit we read of in Gal 5 will flow from your life.
