“Look and Live”

Isaiah 45

22  Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

At 15 years old CH Spurgeon (known as the Prince of Preachers in the 19th Century) heard the above verse and saw the Light. His mother had said she would be a swift witness against him on judgement day and this shook him. He providentially stopped at a tiny church because of bad weather and the lack of a minister forced an old, uneducated gentleman to preach. He took Is 45:22 as his text. Spurgeon looked to Jesus and was saved. From there CH Spurgeon went on to become a preacher of a thriving church by the age of 19. He won souls in those years 15-19 – what are you doing?

The fathers of socialism, Friedrich Engels was asked by the daughter of Karl Marx whom he hated most. He said “Charles Spurgeon”. Engels and Marx said they would save people but did the opposite. Those ideologies do not set you free. The gospel preached by Spurgeon is what liberates people. Though Spurgeon died over a hundred years ago his sermons still bless people today. What blessings have the writings of Engels and Marx brought people?
