“Not Without Your Presence”

Wedding of Gert & Jennifer

Exodus 33

15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

17 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

Marriage couples have wonderful words from the Bible on their wedding day, and if they should live accordingly their marriage can only be more wonderful day by day.

The children of Israel sinned greatly by making a golden calf and worshipping it. They saw God’s great works in Egypt and in the wilderness. They also sang songs of praises to God and made vows to follow the Lord. But they turned their backs quickly on Him and forsook Him. When you sin God gets angry with you. He is a God of love and righteousness and He cannot stand it when you sin.

But in this text we find Moses’ secret of success. He didn’t want God’s blessing but God’s presence. God meant more to him than heaven, the promised land, silver or gold.

Moses was also concerned that he would be well-pleasing to God. Your parents and family might be well-pleased with you, but the question is whether God is well-pleased with you.

A Christian should also be different from the world, as we read in Rom 12:2, “Be not conformed to this world.” A Christian does not follow after the fashions on TV, but dress and behave in a way that is pleasing to God.
