“Redeemed”

Isaiah 43

1 But now thus saith Jehovah that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.

Redemption means that God buys us out of our slavery to sin. There is the true story of the 16 year old slave girl who was being sold on the slave market in America during the years of slavery. An ugly red-faced man said to the girl that he was going to buy her. She realized that he was wicked and would abuse her. She wept as she told a good Christian man of her plight. When it came to the bidding the Christian man outbidded the wicked man and declared that she was free. She said to him that she wants to serve him out of gratefulness.

Jesus has paid the redemption price. He liberates us from the devil. The devil, as it says in John 10:10 has only come to “kill, steal and destroy”. But the good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, has come to “lay down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Out of appreciation we can serve Him forever.
