“Storms”

Mark 4

34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Some storms come unexpectedly while others build up slowly and can be seen coming.

We all go through storms in life. Let us realise no matter what storms come in our lives, they are strengthening our lives, God is teaching us something. He wants to work in our lives through it.

The one who studies God’s Word and takes it to heart and apply it is the one that bears fruit even as the parable of the sower just before our text.

The worst storms in a person’s life sometimes comes from his or her own mind.

Do not sleep and be complacent but vigilant, on fire for God.

David was such a person. He experienced many storms in his life and overcame. He could listen and obey his Godly parents.

Psalms 11

2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

King Saul and his government were busy destroying the foundations of the kingdom of Israel, God’s people. It grieved David deeply.

David lived in the light. The day he hid his sins, he so to say rotted away; but when he repented and confessed his sin, he lived again.

Some of the foundations that are destroyed today are the foundations of the family. There is the law that allows abortion – for a mother to murder her own child.

We are shocked at serial killers, but many mothers are worse, for not only do they murder their own innocent children, but they raise their other children with the same spirit of murder.

Many men are adulterers secretly, and when their children one day look at pornographic magazines and go into the world, they know deep in their heart that they are the guilty ones, for they started it all through their own adultery and watching pornography in secret.

Many create their own storm by watching TV or wasting time browsing the internet for relaxation. There isn’t a single person who does these things and grows spiritually. These things destroy your spiritual life.

Daniel is another example of one whose parents brought him up in the fear of God. His life was blameless so that his enemies couldn’t find fault with anything he did. So they tried to attack his faith and pass laws to prevent him from worshipping God. But God preserved him even through these storms for he remained close to God.

The god of this world tries his utmost to destroy the youth as early as possible through all the filth that floods our country through TV, internet and cell phones.

Go, having made the decision that you will not defile yourself, even as Daniel did.
