“The Word of God”

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Why is Jesus being referred to here as the Word? God has revealed the Heavenly truths through the Word. Had it not been for the Word we would’ve been lost in our sin. It is the Word of the old-testament covenant spoken on mount Sinai (Ex 20), also the Rock that went with the children of Israel (1Cor 10:4).

Isaiah referred to the Word as Immanuel – God with us (Is 7:14). He is from everlasting to everlasting having no beginning or end. Jeremiah says this Word is our righteousness (Jer 23:6; 33:16); we being made righteous through this child. God reconciles Himself to us through this Child.

Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father; and Jesus replied, “have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not know Me, Philip? He that has see Me has seen the Father” (John 14:8)

If you meet this Christ child you will experience a glory that will change your life forever and it will be evident for others to see.

Herod also wanted to know where the Child was because he wanted to kill the Child. Is there anyone with the heart of Herod? He felt nothing for the child for his heart was full of envy and hatred. He called for the scribes and pharisees and asked them where the Messiah was to be born. They could tell him in Bethlehem, yet they themselves never went to worship Him. They were hypocrites that could show others the way but they themselves never walked that way. It will be sad if you should come to the end of your life and it is revealed that everything you said and done were just in your head and not in your heart.

The Messiah is greater than a husband, wife or child. He is greater than life. He is the greatest.

A certain heathen woman got converted and her husband threatened to kill her if she should continue to go to church. So she fetched a block of wood and an axe and laid down on the wood and told her husband, “rather kill me now but I cannot forsake Christ.” He turned away in disgust, spat on the ground and walked away. From that day she could go to church freely. She overcame through the “Blood of the Lamb, the word of her testimony and not loving her life till death” (Rev 12:11).

The proof that the Christ Child is truly born in your life is that you cannot continue in sin. His life in you transforms you.

For many years people were expecting the birth of the Messiah who would trample on the head of the serpent. Many children were born, millions; but how would one recognise the Christ? Let us look at just a few points:- If you read the Bible, the prophets prophesied that He will be a descendant of Abraham. God said to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through him because of the Messiah. (Gen 22:18; 26:4)

He would also be a descendant of David. Both Joseph and Mary were descendants of David and that’s also why they had to go to Bethlehem for the taxation and why He was born there.

He would also be born of a virgin (Is 7:14), as Mary was.

He would be God becoming man (Is 9:6).

He became poor so that through His poverty we might become rich, especially spiritually. Yet at the same time He had riches like no one else. He was small and had to be nursed by His mother. Yet He was great, the Son of God and God Himself, the Creator of heaven and earth. He is the Creator of all things yet He humbled Himself to be born in human flesh (John 1:3).

When He was born the heavenly host couldn’t contain themselves and praised God and proclaimed it as they witnessed that event. So too He has commanded us to preach the Gospel to all creatures. What are we doing about it?
