Transformed by the renewing of your mind

Sunday service, Jabulani Dube, 26 Aug 2018

Joshua 1:16

Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.

Romans 12:1-2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The children of Israel recognised God’s authority in Joshua, and they obeyed him in the conquest of Canaan. However there were those that made light of Joshua’s authority, like Achan who stole and hid some of the accursed thing, and he and his family were destroyed.

So too when Saul came back from his fight with the Amalikites, he spared the king and the best of the cattle, contrary to God’s command by Samuel the prophet.

Do you treat God’s word lightly or take care to obey it? Have you been infected to conform to the world? You will not be able to discern God’s will, if you conform to the world. Rather be transformed by the renewing of your mind. When your mind has been renewed you will be able to discern what is God’s perfect and acceptable will.

Joshua had said that he and his house will serve the Lord. And he challenged the children of Israel to choose whom they want to serve.

Some are known for their unforgiveness and ability to hold grudges, but when Jesus works in such a life, even such people can be transformed.
