“True Discipleship”

Wedding of Agrippa & Hlengiwe

John 14

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Do you have God’s commandments. What has God commanded you? We do not have time now to give each one an opportunity to tell what God has commanded him or her, but maybe in eternity there will be such an opportunity. There could be someone who will not have an answer and will not know what God has commanded him or her, and such a person will obviously live a lawless life.

Jesus commanded His disciples to go to all nations and teach them to keep all that He has commanded them. Such is a disciple – one that keeps Jesus’ commandments. It is such a pity that there’s so many Christians that do not seem to have any command from the Lord – they are wandering around aimlessly without knowing what God has commanded them.

One is not surprised how lawless things have become in the world, but it is heartbreaking that in churches so many claim to be Christians and either don’t even know what God has commanded, or if they know, they do not keep it.

A certain lady sat in a doctor’s waiting room and looked around for something to read. Suddenly she recalled something about the ten commandments and she knew that they were in the Bible, but did not know what they said. She looked around for a Bible and found them in Ex 20. When she read, “Thou shalt not kill”, she was shocked, and said, “O my God, I’ve killed 16 of my own children through abortion”. Fortunately the doctor was a Christian and he could help her and show her the way to Christ and forgiveness of sins.

This lady did not know God’s commandments, but when she read them, she repented. If you do not know what God’s commandments are for you, search in God’s Word and you’ll find them. You as a husband will find God’s commands in the Bible as to how you ought to govern your home in a God-fearing way, as God will call you to account for your wife and children.

Joseph in Egypt knew God’s commands and when he was tempted by that evil woman, he refused to sin, and even when she took hold of him, he slipped out of her hand like wet soap. He knew and kept God’s commands.
A certain witch got converted and after some time I wanted to go to see how it was going with her. I went to her area and enquired at the local police station the way to her home. They showed me the way and provided me with a horse, as it was far into the hills. When I arrived I asked her how it was going. She replied that it was going very well and that she loves the Lord Jesus very much. Then I asked those around and they replied, “She did not tell you the truth, for she’s fully back in her occult practices and even advises others”. God’s Word says that if someone says he loves God, but does not keep his commands, he is a liar.

However, those that love God and keep His commands find the true meaning to life and have sweet fellowship with God. Nothing in this world can even be compared to such a life, for God makes His abode with them, as He promised.
