Wedding of Giel Schoombee and Charlotte Theron

The Christian marriage is totally different from the world.

Rom 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

This verse speaks about a unique God we can know. The fact that God is Holy and hates sin does not offend the sinner. In fact it draws the sinner to be delivered from sin and satan.
But it is an offense to the luke-warm Christian. This is what Leonard Ravinhill said, “the greatest miracle is that God takes an unholy man and makes him holy and then places that man back in the unholy world while keeping him holy in that.
Spurgeon explained it this way, “The holy child of God is like a burning red coal floating in a sea of sin, yet not being quenched.”

How does God do this?
John 16:7-8

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness and judgment.

God’s sorrow doesn’t make you depressed to commit suicide, but draws you to God to be delivered. When the Spirit of God comes into a person’s life and shines His light it convicts the sinner but gives hope. 2Cor 7:10, “For godly sorrow workes repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world workes death.”

We read that we should not be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind. Not our habits or talk or dress should smell like the world, or even our thoughts. Nor when we are complimented.

Our funerals should not smell like the world. For example all the heathen nations cremate their dead. Why did it become custom for Christians to bury their dead? Because their body was the Temple of God.

Is 44:10-17

10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.

12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.

13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.

14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. note

15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:

17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

Beware of creating a god according to your human understanding. You can shape an idol according to your ideas but the truth will come out on your death bed.

There’s a hymn by William Cowper. He was backslidden. He was placed in an institution for insanity. But there God spoke to him and he wrote this hymn,

“1 O for a closer walk with God,
a calm and heav’nly frame,
a light to shine upon the road
that leads me to the Lamb!

2 Where is the blessedness I knew
when first I sought the Lord?
Where is the soul-refreshing view
of Jesus and His Word?

3 What peaceful hours I once enjoyed!
How sweet their mem’ry still!
But they have left an aching void
the world can never fill.

4 Return, O holy Dove, return,
sweet messenger of rest;
I hate the sins that made Thee mourn,
and drove Thee from my breast.

5 The dearest idol I have known,
whate’er that idol be,
help me to tear it from Thy throne
and worship only Thee.

6 So shall my walk be close with God,
calm and serene my frame;
so purer light shall mark the road
that leads me to the Lamb.”

May your walk be close with God as this song says.
