“Behold, I Stand at the Door…”

Revelation 3

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

In 1951 I heard this word preached and when I heard this word I gave my life to the Lord Jesus and He transformed my life. In 1957 He called me into His work and I went to a Bible School and started to preach as an evangelist in 1960.

I grew up as a raw heathen. We did not own a Bible. We worshipped the ancestors and brew beer. We prayed to the dead to help the living.

When I accepted the Lord Jesus they almost chased me from home, when I told them that it was wrong to pray to the ancestors. But I humbled myself before my parents and obeyed them in all good things. They saw the transformation in my life, that I was built upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and allowed me to stay and serve the Lord.

Let’s look at a few verses about this Rock, Christ Jesus.

Ps 18:2, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower”

Matt 7:24, 25, “24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock.”

Mark 4

35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

God’s word says that Jesus got into the boat with the disciples. He is our Rock. They didn’t ask Him to steer the boat but put Him at the back of the boat, at the stern.

The spare-wheel of a car is placed in the boot. With many people they place the Lord Jesus in the boot of their car as a spare-wheel.
When the storm arose the disciples thought they were experienced fishermen and could handle the storm, but they could not. Finally they realised that they’ve exhausted all their skill and that they are going to perish. Then they remembered the Lord, the Eternal Rock, and when He awoke He rebuked the sea and the waves and they became quiet.

There are storms in life that you cannot solve politically, economically or any other way but only “Jesus-cally”. You need Him for He alone can help you.

Our lives are like this boat. But if the Rock is there with us in the boat, we can face any storm.

When they called upon the Lord, Jer 33:3 was fulfilled, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” This is the telephone number to heaven. There are three threes in this telephone number, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When Rev Chauke was in hospital after his car accident there was a girl who came to the hospital to enquire where she can get an abortion. A white nurse said to her that she would call someone to help her and she called Rev Chauke. He went to her in his wheel chair. He spoke to her and told her his own testimony how that he was an unwanted child – his father did not love him and his mother could’ve aborted him. But she chose not to abort him, and this man (Rev Chauke) met the Lord Jesus in 1951, his life was transformed. He went to Bible College in 1957 & 1958 and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ since 1960. He could preach overseas more than 10 times and throughout South Africa, till today. All of this happened through an unwanted child who met the Lord Jesus and was transformed. While he spoke to her, tears streamed down her face and she gave her life to Jesus and was born again.

God’s Word is true when it says in Matt 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

In Is 9:6 we read of this Rock Jesus Christ, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” He will counsel you like no other. He gives you peace and joy that does not come to an end, but the joy the devil gives you lasts only for a moment.

I once went to the United States to the UN building and I asked myself, “how can they have peace talks without the Prince of Peace?”

Who is this man Jesus Christ to whom even the winds and the waves obey? He is the One we read of in John 1:14, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Also John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
