Living Waters

Sunday service, Erlo Stegen, 18 Dec 2016

(50 years of revival celebration)
(Before the service, various of the leaders from the different branches shared what a blessing the revival brought to them, their families and their countries.)

Today is a day of thanksgiving. Some co-workers met these days and prayed for the youth conference and committed it to the Lord. When they had prayed one of them asked if they had enough food for the conference. They didn’t have anything yet. But the next day food started arriving and the following day the room they stored the food in was too small for all the food. The One Who said that, “do not be afraid of what you shall eat or drink” also said, “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all the other things will be added to you” (Matt 6:33). God is faithful and He cares for us and will care for us.

John 7:38
“Whoever believes in me as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them”
Not just a river, but rivers of life. And when a river flows it changes a desert into a garden. Jesus said these words at the time of the feast in Jerusalem. When his brothers asked Him when He was going, He replied that your time is always there, but My time is not always. Jesus always did the will of His Father. There are people who have their own time. They plan and do with their time as they like.

Jesus said to His brothers that He only waited on His Heavenly Father to tell Him what to do. After a few days Jesus was there too at the feast. And then on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and cried out. It was a very difficult time, because the Jews were planning to kill Him. And Jesus had to go to Galilee, among the gentiles to be safe. He wasn’t with the Jews, the so-called believers, because they were planning to kill Him.
Jesus cried out, like an injured buck. What made Him cry out like this? It was because of all the people who claimed to be believers but there were no Living Rivers flowing from their innermost being! One river can change a desert into a garden. Imagine if there are many rivers flowing! Just think of South Africa, if all those rivers were flowing from us, how it will change South Africa.

One day God is going to ask each one to give account of his or her life.
There was a Persian king with his prime minister, a Jew. They had a good relationship one with another. But after some time something changed and the prime minister fell out of favour with the king. One day he was together with his counsellors and he told them that he had a problem about his prime minister and didn’t want to see him anymore. One of his counsellors told him that he had an idea, that he should teach the king’s faithful dog to talk within a year. The people, who loved this prime minister, were shocked, but the prime minister was quite calm. The people were amazed at his calm. Eventually there were only a few days left but the dog was not talking yet. When there was only one day left, they asked him if the dog was talking yet, but he answered in the negative. The next day the king summoned him and asked him if the dog was talking yet. He answered that the dog was talking indeed, but only about all the shameful things that the king did at the brothels in Paris, and all the other shameful things he did when only he and the dog were present. The king was very upset and demanded that the dog be killed. The prime minister answered that he had done it already.

Now your dog will talk on Judgement Day. Your conscience won’t give you rest from the shameful things you have done. The Lord Jesus says there’s nothing hidden that shall not be revealed. You can live immorally, fall pregnant and abort that child, but your conscience won’t give you rest.

We don’t know when the trumpet will sound and the Lord will return and we will have to appear before His Judgement Throne. He that believes as the Scripture says, Jesus promised, rivers of Living Water will flow from his innermost being.

You can come to Jesus, confess your sin, and receive forgiveness, so that when you stand before the Judgement Throne your sin is forgiven, cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb.
