The One whom my soul loves

Sunday service, Erlo Stegen, 25 Jun 2017

Deut 6:4 – 9
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

Verse 5 is probably the most important verse in the Bible, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength”.

Solomon wrote that He sought the Lord till He found Him. And when he found Him, he would not let Him go (Song of Solomon 3:4).
We read that if you seek Him with all your heart He will be found of you (Jer 29:13). To those who found Him, He becomes more important than anything else (1Pet 2:7, 8)!

Have you found the one that your soul loves? Do you love Him more than your parents, your pastor or your counselor.

When satan tempted the Lord, Jesus answered Him from God’s Word. He first answered him that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. He also answered that you shall worship the Lord your God and Him alone you shall serve. And also that you shall not tempt the Lord your God (Matt 4).

We must also find daily bread from Him; that we partake of Him that He brings that daily beauty and sweetness into our lives.

Sadhu Sundar Singh proclaimed the Gospel in India. He distributed literature on the trains. But there was someone who hated the Gospel. Sadhu gave him the Gospel of John, but he tore it up. On that train there was also someone who was searching for God. He received a small piece of the torn Gospel which contained the words “Bread of Life”. He didn’t know what it meant, and he went to one of his friends and asked him about it. One of his friends told him that it’s from the Bible. So he went and bought himself a new testament and found the portion where Jesus said “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35). And as he looked upon it, his heart was filled with the love of God and a longing for Him. God’s love so filled his heart that he went around and told others about the love of God. Jesus became the Bread of Life to him. He went throughout India spreading the Good News, that they also might find the Lord Jesus whom he had found. He became a well-known preacher in India.

We read, “hear of Israel, the Lord your God is One. There is no other.” He is far greater than your father or mother or friends. There is nothing like the Gospel of the Lord Jesus. If you sleep in your sins, wake up and seek the One whom your soul loves.
