“The Reward of the Humble [Part 1]”

Matthew 5

5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

It is one of the most difficult things for us human beings to humble ourselves – to submit to correction.

If you don’t want to submit and humble yourself the Christian life becomes fearfully hard. That’s also why there is so much conflict between Christians.

But may we learn to submit and respect one another. Consider the next person higher than yourself. May we be humble and submit to authority because we fear God. Jesus promised that those who are meek and humble will inherit the earth.

This is the problem with many Christians and especially wives. She might feel that she’s more spiritual than her husband and so she doesn’t respect him as she should. She always knows better. She always wants to have the last word. When a husband realises that his wife is not submissive he tends to get rebellious. Such a woman breaks her husband down and causes him not to be interested in the Word of God. But wives must learn to submit to their husbands. It is a great challenge for wives to submit to and honour their husbands. And it is grievous to a husband if his wife doesn’t submit to authority.

The Bible says that the wife should win her unbelieving husband without words. It is terrible in the sight of God and even before men when women back chat their husbands.

1Pet 3:5, 6, “… the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good …”

We must submit one to another because we fear God. There will never be an argument in the house.

Col 3:23, 24, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance.”

May we not have time to slander the next person. When you speak bad behind the back of another person you will never draw him closer to the Lord and win him. You will only win him by honouring him.

Go and study the Word of God about this matter of humility. Serve the Lord Jesus with all your heart, because He is all that matters.
