“The Undivided Heart”

2 Chronicles 25

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

Amaziah did what was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with an undivided/loyal/perfect heart. We see here that is it possible to do God’s will, yet with a divided heart.

Amaziah kept God’s laws, but his heart was not in it. We see that it is possible to do everything right outwardly, but still simply do it because it is written on a “tablet of stone” and not on the tablet of your heart. We might do all the motions of work for God without true zeal/dedication/fire.

The Pharisees and scribes taught the people the right thing, but they themselves were not right with God. We should watch ourselves too, lest we only have a form of godliness and deny its power in our lives.

Education is good. However, it is wonderful when doctors and professors still have the Bible on their tables in their offices. This Book gives them wisdom and sound judgement. It keeps one young and unites all who knows its power. At Pentecost we read how the disciples were gathered together in the same spirit. Are you one with your brother and sister? After conversing for a few sentences, do you find each other and know that you are born of the same Spirit? If you are not one with your brother or sister, what are you doing about it?

When king Amaziah hired 100 000 soldiers from Israel, God’s prophet reproved him and he grudgingly consented to send them back, being more concerned about the money than doing God’s will. God then gave him the victory over the Edomites, as He promised, but Amaziah then brought back their idols. He set them up for himself and started to worship them. He turned from God. This time, when God’s prophet reproved him for his sin, he simply refused to bow and listen anymore.

Maybe God had given you the victory over sin, the world and the devil. Afterwards, however, you look at the beauties of the world, its fashions, and bring it back into your life and worships them. This is what happens to a divided heart not zealous to follow God.

Amaziah’s heart got lifted up, and he took counsel with his own kind that departed from God, and he turned to fight against Israel. Israel defeated him, broke down Jerusalem’s wall and plundered the temple. Amaziah became a prisoner, and were finally killed by his own people.

Such is the life of a person who does not follow God with all his heart. His spiritual life ebbs away piece by piece, until there is nothing left.

Do you want your life to end like this? If not, then repent, make peace with your brother and sister you are not one with and make peace with God. The story is told of a little boy who loved his little sister, and when she had a rare disease, which he had survived 2 years earlier, was willing to donate his blood so that his sister could live.

We can only be united and be true brethren, if we are born of the same Father. Wherever those meet who are of the same Spirit in Christ, whether it be America, Korea, Europe, China, or Russia, one recognises each other – those that have been to Calvary, are blood washed, and born of the same Spirit.
