Outreach to the Western Cape
On 18 September some co-workers and young people drove to the Western Cape for a youth camp which was hosted by the KwaSizabantu Môreson, Malmesbury team. The first weekend was spent at Malmesbury, where the team attended the Sunday service and visited neighbouring communities. Thereafter, they relocated to Franschhoek while preparations for the youth camp were underway in Wellington.
The need of the youth who attended the camp was overwhelming. Many come from crime-ridden areas. Some, barely 10 years old, have witnessed shooting incidents first-hand and have been left traumatised, struggling daily for survival. Others must cope with the loss of a sibling to gang violence in their area. The team could equip them and build them up and speak openly against harmful influences faced by youth. These include drugs, alcohol, immoral living and social media. Many gave their hearts to God, while others renewed their decision to follow Christ. Dr Peter Hammond from Frontline Fellowship joined the camp for one session and spoke about the harms and dangers of body piercing. CYPSA presented a slide show on types of addiction, with remarkable testimonies of ex-drug and gang leaders – leaving the youth spellbound. Testimonies by those who had been delivered from the bondage of witchcraft and a life of sexual abuse brought help to many.
An additional service was held in Franschhoek where members of the Wemmershoek community gather weekly. The theme was as Jesus willing to heal a leper, so too can He heal us if we come to Him and ask. The closing service of the camp was on the life of Noah. This brought both encouragement and the challenge to live only for Christ.
Many fond memories of the fellowship with those at Franschhoek and Môreson Mission were taken back to KZN. The many faces of new young friends cannot be forgotten. Please remember them in prayer.
