“Only the Blood of the Lamb Can Wash Away Sin”

Luke 2

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

God is Omnipotent and Almighty. He is not just in heaven. Nevertheless heaven is His home and that of the holy angels. We pray, “our Father who art in Heaven”, but He is also here on earth.

Let us use a weak illustration. The sun is high up in the sky, yet the rays of the sun reaches the deepest valley and highest mountain all over the earth. God is much greater and exalted than the sun. God’s presence reaches everywhere. God is here as well as overseas in Europe and on the other side of the globe.

At Christmas we celebrate how God sent His only begotten Son to be born of Mary. Jesus Who is God became flesh.

When this happened the angels in heaven were stirred to behold this great event. The last one wanted to leave heaven and come to earth to behold God becoming flesh.

The Bible speaks of the angels as thousand thousands and ten thousand ten thousands (Rev 5:11). They are a great multitude.

In the letter of Peter we read that the angels long and watch with anticipation to behold the mysteries and wisdom of God displayed among men.

When God clothed Himself in human flesh like ours, His blood wasn’t like ours. His blood is Divine. If you are washed in the Blood of the Lord Jesus you are not washed in the blood of animals or even a human, but His Blood is precious and Divine.

No other blood can wash away our sins, except the precious Blood of the Lord Jesus.

Jesus is truly God and truly man. It is a great mystery.

Jesus was born on this earth, which is full of bloodshed and fighting and sin.

What is this that drove the angels to behold what was happening on earth? They didn’t have any interest in drunkenness, immorality or the riches and pomp of this world. They came to proclaim the everlasting Gospel of God becoming man.

Has the birth of Jesus into this world ever stirred you?

You can call the minister to pray with you and even give you the Lord’s supper to eat when you die but it won’t take away your sin. You must be washed in the Blood of the Lamb.

These shepherds feared God awaiting the Messiah.

It must have been amazing to behold this multitude of angels praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the Highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men”.

The glory of the Lord shone round about them with the multitude of angels praising God.

As they rejoiced so all of us should rejoice for this great Gift God gave to save us from our sin. No one is excluded from this great Gift to be saved from their sins, except those who exclude themselves.

God sent Peace on earth through this Child, but even today there is no peace on the earth because people prefer their own pleasures above this Child. Men love darkness rather than the Light, but if you come to the light that your deeds be exposed you will find grace and forgiveness of sin.
