Thankful for 30 years of Radio Khwezi

Tuesday, 2 September marked the 30th anniversary of Radio Khwezi, a community radio station based on KwaSizabantu Mission. Members of the local community visited the station to congratulate Khwezi on air, to thank the Lord for the great work He has done over the last three decades and to share in the joy of this milestone.

A thanksgiving service was held on Sunday, 7 September. Radio Khwezi listeners, Masibumbane club members, media representatives, traditional leaders, mayors and other distinguished guests gathered to join in the celebration.

The programme included a message by the national minister of communication and digital technologies, Mr Malatsi. He commended the station’s work in the community and the manner in which Radio Khwezi involves local talent in the production of programmes. Other speakers included executives from the MDDA (Media Development and Diversity Agency) and GCIS (Government Communication and Information System), who also expressed their appreciation for Radio Khwezi as a station that identifies with its listeners, visits them and provides support.

The guest speaker, uMntwana wakwaPhindangene, Mr Buthelezi, extolled the vision of Reverend Erlo H. Stegen in starting a radio station to reach many people and bring upliftment.

The testimonies of the change that Radio Khwezi has brought in people’s lives were moving. Listeners related how Radio Khwezi reached them when they had lost all hope. They found new encouragement through the message of the gospel broadcast by Radio Khwezi. The programmes have also helped them in practical ways by teaching farming skills and providing information to improve their daily lives.

Mr Detlef Stegen ended by encouraging Radio Khwezi to continue shining the bright light of the gospel into people's lives and live up to its name of "the morning star".
