My parents, brother and I lived in Rev Stegen's house for the first few years of my life. His 6 daughters are like sisters to me, never did I feel outcast or threatened in their household. They nurtured a love for the Lord Jesus in my heart, which has grown to this day. Rev Stegen's wife, tante Kay, as we called her, was like a mother to me and taught me many life's lessons, in her gentle manner, which I remember to this day. She had the greatest sense of humour and made young and old feel special and loved, everyone was important, no one went unnoticed by her. These are traits which her daughters have inherited from her, giving their lives as missionaries and selflessly serving others, any time of the day or night. They are my role models and I am so fortunate to be able to call them my best friends.
Rev Stegen is the most generous and humble person I know, he just gives and gives, without expecting anything in return. I remember him waking us one Saturday morning to go on an airplane flip to visit my great grandmother's house for breakfast. That sensation of landing in a sugar cane field I will never forget. One year we had a Christmas party in the school hall for all his co-workers and their children... it was an unforgettable experience! When we were older and started working at Kwasizabantu (out of our own free will) he took us to Gateway shopping mall, when it had just opened, to experience the wave house, Imax and enjoy some ice-cream... all paid for by him.
Just the other day, he gave us a new house for my parents and us siblings to move into, now my children can also experience his generosity first hand. Onkel Erlo's life goal is to preach the Gospel and reach lost souls. The spiritual nourishment we get from him is even more special, preparing us for eternity and directing our lives to become more Christ-like… that is the Revival's standard.
"Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for He guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart."
